Cumberland

Cumberland, nestled within the Palisades Plan Area in the northwest part of the city, boasts a tranquil setting bounded by 153rd Avenue to the north and 142nd Street to the west. Emerging in the 1990s, residential development blossomed in the early 2000s, transforming former agricultural lands into a charming residential community. Characterized by predominantly single-detached homes, Cumberland features a serene park in the northeast and interconnected pathways along linear parks that weave through the neighborhood, offering residents ample opportunities for leisurely strolls. At the heart of the community lies a picturesque stormwater management facility, resembling a small lake, fostering a sense of natural beauty and tranquility. Preserving its heritage, Cumberland draws its name from Cumberland House, the inaugural inland trading post established by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1774, paying homage to the illustrious legacy of Prince Rupert, Duke of Cumberland, the company’s first governor.
