Weinlos
Weinlos, nestled in the heart of Mill Woods, traces its origins to the early 1970s when development began in earnest, with the majority unfolding during the vibrant 1980s era. Characterized by low-density residential spaces, this community boasts a landscape dominated by single-detached homes, comprising roughly two-thirds of its housing stock. Higher-density housing clusters around the central school and park area, as well as along the arterial road bordering the eastern edge. The neighborhood’s graceful layout features winding streets converging around a central collector roadway, which passes by an elementary school. While Weinlos itself lacks commercial establishments, the bustling Mill Woods Town Centre Mall lies just westward. Notably, the Kate Chegwin Junior High School stands as a testament to the area’s educational commitment, honoring Kate Chegwin, a pioneering figure in Edmonton’s educational landscape. Named after esteemed surgeons and community advocates, Drs. Morris and Harry Weinlos, who immigrated to Canada in the early 20th century, Weinlos celebrates their enduring legacy in the region’s medical and cultural spheres.
