Tipaskan
Tipaskan, one of the vibrant neighborhoods nestled within Mill Woods, emerged as part of the comprehensive development initiative spearheaded by the Alberta government in 1970. This endeavor aimed to address concerns about the escalating cost of residential land in Edmonton. Boasting a diverse mix of housing options, Tipaskan saw residential development kick off in 1976, with significant completion by the decade’s end. Its housing landscape encompasses single and semi-detached homes, low-rise apartments, and row housing, catering to varied lifestyle preferences. Situated alongside collector roadways and recreational zones, high-density housing and commercial areas enhance the neighborhood’s accessibility and convenience. Anchored by a multi-purpose school and recreational hub, Tipaskan fosters a vibrant community spirit, complemented by its ample pedestrian pathways and close-knit layout. Its name, derived from the Cree language meaning ‘a reserve,’ pays homage to the area’s rich indigenous heritage during its time as a Cree Indian reserve from 1876 to 1891.
