Skyrattler
Skyrattler joined Edmonton’s fold in 1974 under the Kaskitayo plan area, initially largely untouched save for the Baptist Seminary College. Reflecting the Kaskitayo charm, Skyrattler boasts a blend of row housing and low-rise apartments, many nestled close to the scenic Blackmud Creek Ravine. While row houses and apartments bloomed in the late 1970s, single-detached homes emerged later in the 1980s. Anchoring the community, a quaint shopping plaza at Saddleback Road and 23 Avenue caters to residents’ daily needs.
Following the residential trends of its era, Skyrattler boasts winding streets with limited connections to major thoroughfares, fostering a cozy ambiance. Central to the neighborhood’s allure is a combined school and park site, although a portion of the designated school space now hosts low-density housing after being deemed surplus to educational needs and rezoned in 2008. Echoing the tradition of Kaskitayo, Skyrattler’s name honors Chief Skyrattler, leader of the Winterburn band during Edmonton’s ascent to city status in 1904.
