Pleasantview

Pleasantview, situated west of Calgary Trail, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. While the eastern part became part of Edmonton in 1914, the remainder joined in 1948. Initially rural, the area underwent development post-World War II, with returning veterans benefiting from the subdivision of prairie farmland. The neighbourhood’s layout, featuring curvilinear streets surrounding a central park, reflects the subdivision trends of its time. Pleasantview boasts diverse land uses, including a cemetery at Caine Memorial Park and a thriving commercial district along Calgary Trail South and 51 Avenue. Originally named Martin Estate after early settler David Martin, the area was later renamed in 1950 to honor its prominent hill and the panoramic views it offers.
