Ottewell

Ottewell, one of Edmonton’s largest neighborhoods, boasts a rich history and diverse amenities despite its location within the Mature Neighbourhood Overlay. Its boundaries are neatly defined by major arterials to the east, north, and west, along with a collector road to the south. Developed primarily during the 1950s and 1960s, Ottewell’s road network reflects the era’s subdivision planning, showcasing a blend of single-detached homes. Capilano Mall serves as the commercial hub, while smaller plazas dot the landscape, including one on 90th Avenue.
This expansive community hosts a plethora of amenities, including six religious assemblies, seven schools, and numerous parks and sports facilities. Additionally, Kings University College, a post-secondary institution, enriches the area’s educational landscape. Ottewell’s name pays homage to the Ottewell family, pioneers who settled south of the North Saskatchewan River in 1881 and made significant contributions to agriculture and commerce. Today, Ottewell’s legacy lives on, with its historic log cabin showcased at Fort Edmonton Park’s 1885 Street.
