North Glenora
North Glenora, with roots tracing back to River Lot 2, once owned by Malcolm Groat in 1870, began its journey to development under Montreal realtor James Carruthers in 1906. While neighboring communities like Groat Estate and Westmount flourished from the early 20th century, North Glenora awaited its turn, catalyzed by the post-World War II economic boom. Initial attempts at subdivision predated World War I but were stalled by subsequent conflicts and economic downturns.
The advent of automobiles in the 1940s sparked a shift in planning, with Noel Dant pioneering a street pattern emphasizing crescents and cul-de-sacs to deter through traffic, laying the blueprint for North Glenora’s layout. Bounded by major roadways, the community witnessed residential construction predominantly in the 1950s, accompanied by the establishment of key amenities like the recreation complex. Today, North Glenora stands as a testament to thoughtful planning, its residential charm complemented by convenient access to Westmount Mall, serving as a cherished hub for its residents.
