McConachie
In Edmonton’s northeast Pilot Sound area lies McConachie, established in 2006 with its Neighbourhood Structure Plan. Its boundaries stretch from Anthony Henday Drive to the north, 66th Street to the west, and 167 Avenue to the south, offering convenient access to Manning Drive and other city amenities. Development swiftly followed the plan’s approval and remains ongoing, envisioning a blend of two-thirds low-density and one-third medium-density housing units upon completion. The neighborhood integrates three commercial sites along its southern and western edges, alongside planned amenities like a district park, two school sites, and two stormwater management ponds. Preserving existing greenery, an enduring tree stand gracefully traverses the neighborhood from east to west, enhancing its natural allure. Honoring aviation pioneer George William Grant McConachie, after whom the neighborhood is named, underscores Edmonton’s rich aviation legacy. Additionally, streets pay homage to W. W. McDonough, celebrating his remarkable contributions to bush and racing aviation, ensuring their legacies thrive amidst McConachie’s vibrant community spirit.
