Lorelei

In response to the oil-driven surge of the 1970s, Edmonton extended its borders, annexing the expansive Castle Downs and Lake District area in 1971 to accommodate burgeoning population growth. Subsequent development swiftly followed, shaping the Castle Downs neighborhoods well into the 1980s. Lorelei, outlined in 1975, now stands as a fully realized community, bordered by Castle Down Road, 97th Street, Beaumaris Road, and 160 Avenue. Characterized by a diverse housing landscape, Lorelei boasts a harmonious blend of housing types, with single-detached homes comprising roughly half of its residential offerings. Notably, the neighborhood embraces ample green space surrounding its elementary schools, fostering a vibrant recreational hub, while well-planned pathways and open space buffers enhance pedestrian and cyclist mobility. Anchored by the Castle Downs Shopping Centre and conveniently connected to 97th Street, Lorelei thrives as a dynamic enclave, echoing the spirit of its namesake, the legendary castle site along Germany’s Rhine River.
