Delwood

Delwood, initially settled in the early 1900s, saw its primary development surge during the 1960s. Its boundaries encompass 137th Avenue to the north, 82nd Street to the west, 132nd Avenue to the south, and 66th Street to the east. Adjacent to Delwood lies Belvedere, offering commercial amenities and the Belvedere Light Rail Transit (LRT) station along Fort Road.
Reflective of 1960s planning, Delwood boasts a design characterized by interior streets embracing modified grid patterns, with green spaces like pocket parks and a larger park/school site gracing Delwood Road. Centrally situated schools and commercial hubs at the neighborhood’s corners foster a vibrant community ambiance. Delwood presents a diverse range of housing options, including single and semi-detached homes, row housing, and low-rise apartments, catering to varied residential needs. Josef Chelen Park, nestled in the northeast, commemorates the legacy of Josef Chelen, a revered Polish-born market gardener in the Beverly Area. This historic neighborhood, perhaps named in homage to Edward Delegare “Del” Grierson, a notable landowner and politician, replaced former subdivision appellations like Industrial Centre, Queen’s Park, and East Delton.
