Canora
Canora, once part of the Town of Jasper Place, saw residential development spanning from the 1930s to the 1970s, with most current structures built by 1980. Initially featuring small single-detached houses, the neighborhood has seen redevelopment, now boasting duplexes and low-rise apartments along major streets. Separated by four main roadways, Canora benefits from a Neighbourhood Improvement Program from the 1970s, offering well-developed parks, schools, and community facilities. Along Stony Plain Road, a thriving commercial strip provides convenient access to amenities for residents, enhancing neighborhood livability. Interestingly, Canora derived its name from a school contest winner in 1948, creatively combining “Canadian Northern Railway,” near which the school was built, into “Canora,” a name now synonymous with the vibrant neighborhood.
