Baranow

Baranow, a distinctive neighbourhood in the southwest corner of Edmonton’s Castle Downs area, stands out with its predominantly non-residential character. Commercial and business/industrial land uses are the main features of Baranow, with residential areas concentrated in two specific parts: one in the north and another in the south-central section. It is a high-density neighbourhood, home to many low-rise apartment buildings. While a few original homes from the 1960s still stand along the eastern edge, most of the construction occurred in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Reflecting the tradition within Castle Downs, Baranow is named after a historic structure, specifically the Baranow Castle in Poland, which dates back to between 1591 and 1606 and was once the residence of Prince Lubomirski.
