Athlone
Athlone, a charming neighborhood in Edmonton, was annexed in 1913 as part of a larger parcel of land north of the Canadian National Rail Line. While its development kicked off significantly in the 1950s, its street layout adopts a modified grid pattern typical of that era. This community predominantly features single-family homes, with a mix of low-density multifamily residences as well. Most commercial activities are centered along 127 Street, providing convenient access to goods and services for residents. Named in honor of Alexander Augustus, the Earl of Athlone and Canada’s Governor General from 1940 to 1946, Athlone carries a rich historical legacy that adds to its unique character and appeal.
