Eastwood

Eastwood traces its roots back to as early as 1906 when parts of it were initially subdivided. The advent of a streetcar line along 118 Avenue by 1910 significantly boosted development, linking Edmonton to North Edmonton. By the outbreak of World War I, numerous homes and businesses flourished along this vital transportation route and major roads. However, post-war, Eastwood experienced a slowdown in development, with many properties remaining undeveloped for years. Despite these challenges, by the 1950s, much of the initial development was complete, paving the way for subsequent redevelopment efforts. Likely named for its geographical location on the eastern edge of Edmonton before the 1912 amalgamation, Eastwood remains a testament to the city’s evolving history.
