Carlton
Nestled in Edmonton’s northwest, Carlton, once agricultural land, saw industrial use in the late 1970s before residential development began in the 1990s, with major construction taking off in the early 2000s and ongoing development in parts. Featuring mainly low-density housing like single and semi-detached homes, Carlton plans to incorporate some medium-density units in the southwest. Natural elements, including a woodlot, enrich the neighborhood, while a central stormwater management facility doubles as a communal amenity and open space. Embracing the tradition of naming neighborhoods after fur trade forts, Carlton pays homage to Fort Carlton, an erstwhile Hudson Bay Company post established in 1798 near the confluence of the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers, serving as a pivotal hub for western trade and commerce.
