Bellevue
Bellevue, one of Edmonton’s charming neighbourhoods, began to take shape in 1907, located west of the city’s Northland site. Its development was influenced by the construction of the Capilano Freeway (now known as Wayne Gretzky Drive), which led to a reduction in its size, making it smaller than most neighbourhoods in the city. Most of Bellevue’s development took place before 1950, predominantly featuring single-detached homes. A key feature of the area is Eastglen High School, which serves students from east central Edmonton. Named perhaps for the French term “beautiful view,” Bellevue is aptly situated atop the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, offering stunning vistas of the river valley and Edmonton’s downtown skyline, truly living up to its name.
