On August 28th 2024, Coldwell banker Mountain Central held its first annual charity golf tournament. Despite challenges with the weather, it was a huge success!
As golfers began arriving at 11 a.m. at the beautiful Links of GlenEagles Golf Course in Cochrane, there was some initial hesitation about moving forward with the day. Despite it being August, we had woken up to freezing cold rain, strong winds, and a thick, hazy sky—hardly the ideal weather for a golf tournament. We had managed to pick the one cold, rainy day in the middle of a sunny summer to host our first annual charity golf event. While some participants decided not to brave the elements, the majority showed up, determined to make the best of the day.
Once teams were registered and grouped into their golf carts, a shotgun start sent everyone off onto the course. Fortunately the golf carts were equipped with rain covers! Despite the weather, as soon as the golfing began, the atmosphere lightened. Some participants were seasoned golfers, while others were playing for the very first time, but laughter filled the air as players offered each other support through the shivers. Although we couldn’t fully appreciate the stunning views GlenEagles is known for, we were still able to admire the beautiful course.
Throughout the day, golfers had the chance to visit the sponsor tents that had weathered the cold with us, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to them. It was a true highlight to be greeted with warm smiles and cheers as we approached each tent. One sponsor even took to the course in a golf cart, delivering gifts directly to participants! And of course, we were grateful for the mobile drink cart provided by GlenEagles, offering some much-needed refreshments.
After a few hours on the course, everyone gathered back at the lodge for awards and dinner. The room buzzed as the golfers exchanged stories from the day and compared who’s shoes were more soaked. Dinner, provided by GlenEagles, was followed by the presentation of awards, celebrating various accomplishments on the course. We also held raffle draws, giving away fantastic prizes, and hosted a small auction for a one-day golf pass with friends, which encouraged some friendly competition. A special highlight was hearing from our charity partner, Pawsitive Match, who joined us to raise awareness about their mission—finding loving homes for pets in need. Their presence was a reminder of why we braved the cold in the first place. As the event came to a close, everyone was grateful to head home to their warm showers and dry socks, but it was undoubtedly a memorable day.
Many of us at Coldwell Banker Mountain Central are pet owners, so partnering with Pawsitive Match for this event was an easy decision. Rob Vanovermeire, our broker and owner, personally visited Pawsitive Match after the tournament to deliver the funds raised and tour their facility, meeting some of the pets awaiting adoption. Here’s a photo of Rob with Sinbad the cat, who is looking for his forever home. We are thrilled to share that the tournament raised over $2,000 for Pawsitive Match! We are incredibly grateful to this amazing organization for all they do and for joining us on such a chilly day. A big thank you also goes out to our sponsors, without whom this day wouldn’t have been possible.
